Hello,

I have recently bought by internet a book, the book is "Slaying the dragon", this book is written in English language by the athlete Michael Johnson.

I have always wanted to read this book since he wrote it in 1996, but my poor information about English languaje, I couldn't read it. But it is diferent now, I have been learned a litle English languages, so I'm going to try to read this book in this summer.

Maybe this book isn't the most recomended for a beginner, but I can try it.

National Quality Label awarded!!!!

Our Twinblog has just been awarded the Spanish Quality Label today!!!!!

The Spanish eTwinning National Support Service, from the Ministry of Education, has got in touch with me, as coordinator of the project, to let us all know that our etwinning project was worth a National Quality Label.

eTwinning Quality Labels are granted to teachers with excellent eTwinning projects. They indicate that the project has reached a certain national standard.

What are the benefits?

The Quality Label is concrete recognition to teachers and schools of the high level of their eTwinning activities. For pupils, this offers a boost to their work efforts, and for the school in general, a public affirmation of their commitment to quality and openness in European collaborative work.

Who grants the national Quality Label?

The National Support Service (NSS) in each country evaluates applications from schools for the national Quality Label.

What are the criteria?

A project has to broadly achieve excellence in the following areas: (1) Sustainability, (2) Use of ICT within the project, (3) Results and benefits, (4) Curricular integration, (5) European dimension, (6) Innovation/creativity, and (7) Overall quality.

From our virtual etwinning meeting point, I'd like to sincerely thank all of you, etwinning teachers and students, who have all worked really hard for it.

EASTER WEEK: “The day of the meal in the street”

I would like to tell many things about the Easter Week in Avilés, so that you can know something more about the processions in my city, but the reality is that I have never participated in the processions, so I can’t tell you anything interesting about them.
However, I can tell you about a day which is celebrated by almost all of people in Avilés: Easter Monday (The first Monday after Easter Friday). This day is called “The day of the meal in the street” because families and friends leave home to eat their Spanish home-made omelette, turnovers and sandwiches in the street. And they usually drink cider. People divide up almost of the main streets of the city with their chairs and collapsible tables or they simply place a piece of plastic to lie down on the grass of the park. Some people prefer to eat while they are sitting on chairs outside pubs and bars along the streets (these places have to be reserved and paid for as soon as possible).
On this day it is customary that godsons and goddaughters give a sprig of laurel or a blessed palm to their godparents. Godparents buy them an Easter bunny (sometimes they also give them a present).
It is a perfect day to share and enjoy with the family.

Holy week in Avilés, by Aitor Alonso, 2I G

Of all the cities of Asturias only the processions in Aviles are important for its population. Many religious brotherhoods parade in the streets, but the most famous one all over the region is one called “San Juaninos”. Their saint is San Juan, and they are well known thanks to their dance.

When they parade, the Saint is moved very fast and the members of the brotherhood move quickly too. They move from left to right. Their uniform is a white hood, a red cap and a blue tunic. You can see their parade in you tube on the internet because a lot of tourists made films.

At the kiosk

When the German people were here, almost everyone went to a kiosk in Villalegre to buy the newspaper, to recharge the bus card or whatever other thing. The woman who owns the shop is called Mayte and she was grown up in Germany so she speaks German.

She is a very intelligent woman as she speaks other four languages. One day I went there with Robin, Janett and Vanessa and she started talking with them in German. Vanessa and me couldn't believe it, as we have been going there for such a lot of years. She was very kind with all us.

The last day we (Robin and me) went to say goodbye to Mayte and the other Robin and Alicia were there too. Mayte did a little 'party' for us and we took a picture. Last month I went there as I usually do and she gave me the picture printed and then Alicia sent it to me by mail, so I upload it in here.

Mayte sends to all the German people she have met in January kind regards and hopes to see you again.

THE THEATRE PALACIO VALDES by Florentina Antuña NB2F

The architect Manuel del Busto built the theatre Palacio Valdés in Avilés in 1920 when this town had 12.000 inhabitants. It was built in the neobaroque style.

This teathre was named “Palacio Valdés” because Armando Palacio Valdés was a writer who lived in Avilés when he was a child and he sited some of his novels in this city. He was born in Entralgo, Asturias, in 1853 and he died in 1938 in Madrid.
His most important bibliography : “Marta y María”, “José”, “La hermana San Sulpicio”, “La aldea perdida”, etc.

In the theatre people could see plays and films (silent movies until the 1930’s, and then movies with sound) from 1920 to 1972.
In 1972 the theatre closed its doors for financial troubles.
Later, the town council bought it, that has been a public property and it has been open since 1992.

At present, there are a lot of plays, ballets, operas, concerts, etc., all year.

The Best Week of the Year in Avilés by Cristina del Busto NI1ºC

San Agustín is an important festival in Aviles. It takes place from the 21st to the 28th (San Agustín) of August.
During this week there are some interesting activities. For example, in La Fruta street, there is a medieval market where you can buy different things. There are also some concerts. Famous people come here to perform. It’s interesting because during the rest of the year there aren’t any concerts so young people have fun these days. Finally, the last day is the most important. After a concert in la Ría de Avilés there are the famous fireworks, which can be seen in the water. It’s spectacular because there are a lot of people there, although the next day most of the people have to work.
It’s a fantastic week and very important here in Aviles. If you are on holidays, you should come here because you will have fun!

EASTER IN AVILÈS

Easter, starts on the 5th of April and finishes on the 13th of April.
These public holidays have a lot of religious and festive events.

The most significant day for people who love Easter is “Domingo de Ramos”.
People go to the different churches of Avilès where the priest blesses a kind of typical palm.
After that, there is a procession called “La Borriquilla” that marches down some of the most important streets of Avilès.
And finally there is a mass.

The second festive day is called “Jueves Santo”, on this day there are some processions at night that are followed successively by others the next few days.

The third important day is “Viernes Santo”, when there are also some processions with a different religious meaning to the day before.
The streets are crowded with people watching these processions, , moreover the young go out at night to the different pubs in the city-center.

The last day is called “Lunes de Pascua” and this is the most exciting day for the young who call it “Lunes de la comida en la calle”.
It begins in the morning. A lot of tables are put out on the main streets. People take their own food and cider to have a nice day with their relatives or friends.
The young do the same but in the biggest park of Avilès.
This festivity has been declared of National Tourist Interest.

“A SPECIAL EASTER”

Every Easter Holidays, there is one day (Monday after Maundy Thursday), when everybody in Avilés leaves their homes to fill all the streets in the city. Families, teenagers, children, meet in different parts of the town to eat together. No problems, no work, only celebration. It´s a fantastic day, unique in our village.
The city council puts tables and chairs along the parks or squares for people to eat on. You can eat anywhere. Everything is free, you only have to bring your food and enjoy yourself.
People sing and dance to the sounds of the bagpipes and drink lots of cider, too. The atmosphere is really special. You can see people wearing the typical costume from Asturias.
Happily more than 23.000 people share this beautiful day with their relatives and friends. Although the weather is not always on our side, it´s an exciting experience, anyway.

Aren't you a believer?... Well, eat a bun!!!

Here, in Avilés, we celebrate The Holy Week (or Easter) as a Religious celebration. Everything begins on Palm Sunday. People go to church with a laurel or olive palm to bless it. On this day, they wear new clothes because it's a traditional act. As the saying goes: “you will wear for the first time a garment if you don't want your hands to fall off”.

On Maundy Thursday and Good Friday all the believers go out on to the street to see “the passion floats” (= a group of people bearing images of Jesus Christ and the Virgin during processions). The air smells of candles and there is wax on the floor where they have just passed by.

On Easter Sunday we enjoy watching the floats pass and figures with huge heads march too and make children laugh.

On Easter Monday we have an original and unique celebration. We bake an Easter bun (but most people buy it) with a strange form which is delicious. This is the best part of Easter for me!!!

THE HOLY WEEK IN AVILÉS

There are some interesting celebrations during the Holy Week in Spain and a lot of tourists come from different countries to see them.

There are fabulous processions all over the country, with members of brotherhoods that are called “cofradías”, dressed in hooded robes who come out on to the streets carrying sculptures.

Celebrating the Holy Week is a typical tradition in Spain. You can see this in the North and in the South, but I believe that this religious tradition is more popular in the South than in the North.

Maybe “Sevilla” has the most famous Holy Week processions. But, if you have the chance to come and see the Holy Week in Avilés you will enjoy this spectacular celebration, too.

There are eight brotherhoods with more than one thousand memberships who carry the sculptures from Palm Sunday to Holy Saturday. After that, there is a special celebration called the “Fiesta del Bollo” which all children wait for with enthusiasm.

On Easter Sunday, god-parents give short-cake to their god-children as they receive the Holy Palms. The next day, a lot of decorated carriages, beautiful giant-headed figures and some musical groups parade along the street. Later, at midnight, there are a lot of spectacular fireworks over the Avilés estuary. This is the end of the Holy Week in Avilés.

EASTER MONDAY: A DELICIOUS MEAL IN A HISTORIC STREET

You probably think I told you about Easter in Avilés and the Easter Bun in my last recipe. You are right! But today I’m going to tell you about another typical custom in Avilés. This is a meal in the street, where people can enjoy a nice day sharing their delicious meals with neighbours and unknown but talkative people in the most interesting and historic places of our city.

This party started in 1992 to celebrate the hundredth anniversary of “The Bun Party” in Avilés, and every year it is a great success with lots of participation.

This year we’re going to celebrate this meal on 13th of April. My family, my friends and I will be there this year. I hope so. We couldn’t enjoy it last year because it was pouring, so we are very excited because we’ll be spending that day all together.

To go to this party you only have to go to the Town Hall and choose the place you want in a map of the city, they’ll do the rest of the work: they put out a big table along the main streets, the chairs and the music.

I´d rather go to a historic square called “Hermanos Orbón Square” where every Monday (except Easter Monday) there is a big market. There you can listen to live music in a beautiful place with people you love. Isn’t it a really good plan to start the week after the Easter holidays?

Have a good day, everyone!
My name is Andrew, and I am a first year student at the Official School of Languages in Avilés.

I am currently a pre-retired bank clerk, and in my spare time, I help with some work at a friend’s Agency and Estate Agent's in Piedras Blancas. I also study English.

I was born in a small town called Calatayud, in Zaragoza, where my sisters live. It’s a very well located city with many beautiful things to see, so I recommend everybody to visit the area!

17 years ago I came to work in Avilés, in the Central Bank, then called Banco Central Hispano and later in Banco Santander Central Hispano. I worked in Grado, Mieres, Piedras Blancas, Pravia, Cangas del Narcea and Pravia again. I finally retired in 2006, and I settled to live in Piedras Blancas, where I had my house.

I am married, my wife is called Elizabeth, and her whole family is from Aviles. We have two daughters, Andrea and Patricia, and they have already finished their studies and are working, one in Avilés and the other in Toledo. We also enjoy the company of two beautiful cats: Tina (female) and Lucas (male).

Although I am not working now, I don’t have much free time, but I try to enjoy doing what I like now: studying English, going to the countryside, walking, travelling, going to the beach or spending time with my family. Every year I go to the beach for my summer vacation. Recetly I’ve been to "Mil Palmeras", a beach that is between Torrevieja and La Manga del Mar Menor. I also visit my family.

Avilés as cultural village

Aviles is a small town, but has a huge history. Its theatre is very famous in Spain, its cultural life is very intense all year.You can see Spanish TV actors and actresses in our theatre and the tickets are at a very good price.

If you prefer to see the architecture of Aviles, here there are a lot of ancient buildings of PreRomanesque style, and you can pay a visit to all of these and know their history. Also, you can see a fragment of the wall that has sorrounded Aviles for a long time.

Aviles is not only a cultural town, it has also been an industrial town for many yearsand has had factories that have employed people and made some of them rich. One of this is the iron and steel industry, it makes the metal for our cars, lorries, vans, trams and planes. This industry also contributes to protect the environment with the manufactures of windmills. . This wind is used to produce electrical energy.

Aviles is also a sport village, it has various sport centres, where you can do sport,get fit and have fun. I enclose a photo I took of athletics track in Quirinal.

The Carnival in Aviles is a tourist recommendation. Every year the number of people who participate in this festival increases as well as the shows and performances. There are a lot of parades but the most important one is on Tuesday. It starts in José Cueto Street and finishes at the Town Hall.

Another important event is Galiana descent. It’s a festival for young people who don’t mind wearing cold wet clothes because there are some firemen who get the people wet. Everybody wears green and yellow coats and the people who don’t participate should be careful because there are eggs and water flying all over Galiana Street. It’s an amazing festival in which the participants are mainly teenagers.

The old quarter of Aviles declared artistic and monumental heritage in 1995 is a lively museum of our past. Going all over its streets and squares makes it possible for us to discover the XII century history.

Especially during the summer when the legends take place. The legends are short theatre plays which are shown at representative places of the city such as Vadecarzana’s Palace, Ferreras’ park or Camposagrado’s Palace every week during August, usually on Thursday. The old quarter legends invite us to go for a magic walk enjoying adventures, customs and traditions which have given sense to the town.

Most of the actors are students so this also means a chance for them to practise what they have learned during the school year. As a result of this remunerated chance they show the best of themselves, there are ballet dancers too who have to make a heavy effort dancing most of the times in the street in front of the public.

In other words it is a great opportunity to watch good theatre free.

Hello ,everybody!
My name is Víctor. I was born in Avilés and I live in Los Campos, Corvera . I´m single. I´m an environmental technician . I used to deal with analyzers, atmosphere, clean water and wastewater, meteorology equipment, etc. I've worked in this field for ten years.
In 2001, I went to live in Barcelona. I worked there for six years as a technician in industrial instrumentation; measuring equipment and industrial control, treatment and data transmission, industrial computers (Plc´s), electrical and electronic signals, measurement and control of temperature, flow, pressure, weight…
In November 2007, I retired from work due to illness and returned to Asturias, where I currently live.
Now I dedicate my free time to study English and German in the Official School of Languages in Avilés. My hobbies are reading, walking, writing, going out with my friends, going to the cinema or the theater, travelling, swimming, and especially taking pictures. In my car, I always have my photo equipment: a Canon 400D with two lenses, a Canon 18-55 mm and a Tamron 70-300 mm.

My Experience

I was very nervous, because it was my first exchange-program. A different country... and I was a bit scared. But it was GREAT!! All the students were very kind and nice. Tobias, my “brother” helped me a lot and he’s very kind. And I made a lot of friends.

Essen is an enormous city with a lot of things to do. I tried ice skating. Too difficult for me, but I had fun (I think that this is the most important thing).

This has been an incredible experience, and I want to repeat it, as soon as I can. I hope not to stop talking with the German and the Spanish students.

And the thing that I liked the most was to visit a new country, to realise that people are different and I could eat things that I had never seen in my life.

I'll miss all the german students and I hope to see them again, and to start studying German harder, because my level is not very good.

And of course, I have to thank the teachers, that make this possible (DANKE!)

Hello everybody!!!

This trip was my first exchange and I have to say that it was wonderful!!! I think I’m very lucky because I could meet very nice people and know Essen.

At first, I was nervous because it was my first time in another country. I don’t speak German and I’m not good at speaking English, but Lea, my exchange partner, was very kind and her family too. She was always smiling and asking to me if I wanted to go anywhere or if I needed anything. We had a lot of fun bowling and ice-skating, and playing videogames with Justin; but I think the most amazing thing in Essen was the book shop… Maybe that’s because I love books and manga comics. It was huge! I really think that all in Essen was huge: houses, skyscrapers, the Town Hall, the shopping centre…

Lea wasn’t able to go to Spain because she was ill. What a pity! So Robin, who didn’t have a partner, came to my home. I discovered that all the men in Spain and Germany speak the same language: it’s called football. My dad got along with him though he doesn’t speak English or German. Robin was a very nice boy too.

Those days I spent in Essen were awesome and the days that they were in Avilés too. Four days are a very short time but I enjoyed it very much. All people in the exchange (Spanish and German, teachers and students) were very nice and I think the other Robin is the funniest person in the world. I’m very glad I met all of them.

hey everybody
my time in spain was great .I think the exchange has a very good result.
It was a lot of fun for everybody.
At first i want to tell a bit about my hostfamily.
The familly was really friendly.The house was big and nice.The ambience was beautiful and i also like the city aviles .
It was sooooo cool to see how the spanish people live and their traditions .
I think the spanish food it very delicious and i tried to taste everything my familiy gaves me.
It was good for us to speak english the wohle time so it was a valuable training for us.
Laura and I had venture a lot of things together with our hostfamilies.We were at the high cliffs and in a museum near the cliffs which was very interesting.We also were in a little city where the small houses were build on top of eachother.That was really impressive for us .
The weather in Spain was better then here in germany. Although some days were not soo good and very coold but the other days it was particulary warm there in the winter . At the last day before leaving spain it was very windy and things were fliying through the air.
And in the night it was a bit scary to listen to the wind which hits the windows :S .
At most i liked it to go shopping in spain .
The shops there has so much wonderful clothes not like in germany .
And the shopping centers are so awesome. There i felt like in a paradise .

Okay at last i want to thank my hostfamily and expecially Virginia again for everything they have done for me . It was a great time and i always would do it again.
I hope we will see us again in the next time .

Hi everybody:

Although The etwinning-project wasn’t my first exchange, I think it was the best I have ever had bacuse I ‘ve met a lot of Spanish and German friends so I enjoyed all the time with them and now I miss all of them .

In Essen I spent very good moments and the city was bigger than Avilés and also moderm with a big Town Hall, a lot of shops and shopping centres and high buildings, so I liked it. The best moment in Essen for me I think it was when Shanice, Laura, Lea, Lisa and Jan picked up Eva, Nuria, Ana, Alicia and me at the icerink; that night was wonderful.

Hello everybody!!

First of all I want to say that I'm so grateful!! The exchange has been the best experience I have ever had.

I really liked Essen, it's a huge city! But what I loved the most was my sister Janett!! She's GREAT and I had a lot of fun with her!!Now I know that I have such a good friend there. I also love my German family, they treated my just like another daughter. I thought I wouldn't be able to talk to them because I couldn't speak German, but it was a surprise, I could talk to them, and I learnt that sometimes words aren't important to comunicate. They were so friendly to me and I really have to say: Danke! Danke! Danke! for everything! And Janett's grandmother is so cool!! =)

I spent the best days of my life there in Essen!! It's an unforgetable experience! And I hope to go there again and my sister come here!
The day we went to the bowling and to the Chinese restaurant was just perfect! And the night at Robin's house playing Singstar!I really enjoyed it.
We met Duong and Ferhat, who are also two of my new German best friends! I wish they can come here in summer with us. They're awesome!

Not only we met new friends in Germany but also here in Spain! We didn't know eachother before the trip and know we have become good friends!

After this great experience I want to learn German, I found it an interesting language! (Du schaffst es!).

I also have to say thanks to our teacher, who made this exchange possible! I will be always greatful!

¡Hola a todo el mundo!

The exchange was an unforgettable experience. It was instructive and all at once funny. My host family was sensational, really open-hearted. Also Eva ;-). First it wasn't easy to talk with my host parents because of their few English. But by hand, foot and dictionary we were able to understand each other. The classes in the School of Language EOI were very interesting and entertaining. Different people with different backgrounds and intensions have the same aim: study further! Talking to this people at all ages about experiences, interests and perceptions were very revealing and made a lot of fun. As recently as last month, I couldn't have imagined that meeting new people would be so exciting.

Just as well was Aviles. Aviles is a very wonderful city. It's so breathtaking to live next to the sea. The weather in Asturias was nice and warm in contrast to the weather in Essen. It's very romantically taking a walk in the narrow alleys of Spain. So in my honest opinion is living in a small town more spectacular than living in a big city like Essen. I hope I'll come back soon. :-)
At last I'm able to say: I have met great people and got knew friends, I improved my English and have eaten a lot of nice and delicious foot. ;-)

I recommend doing an echange all people who are interested in languages, countries and civilizations. Of course I would say "yes" for re-experience the exchange. Thanks to the teachers and the host family who made the exchange possible. I'm truly greatful. So let's stay in touch :-) Salutations from Essen!!!

Being the first time on a exchange I didn't know what to think about it because it is not the same that travelling abroad on your own, as I had done before. After it, I know it is a wonderful experience that has been really short (just four days!).

In Germany we have had a great time, playing bowling, going to restaurants or eating with our host families, ice skating, etc. In Spain the weather hasn't been so good despite we have had a great time too with the Aquarium, visiting the cities, at the beach, playing pool or sightseeing.

Maybe the dates hasn't being the perfect ones because we have had classes and now we have to make up for those days, but the trip has been worth while.

The thing I have liked most of all has been meet all the fantastic people with who I will keep in touch now, in Spain or in Germany. We the Spanish people have met friends around where we live. In Germany, I have been very lucky with my host family and with my exchange student, who has been very cool!

I want to thank you the teachers who made this possible and who were with us all the trip! We have practised a lot of English and discovered a lot of things about Germany of the German people that we didn't know and we have forgotten some wrong clichés.

This was an experience to repeat it.

The etwinning-project was really pretty!!
I enjoyed all the time. All the exchange-students were so nice and I miss all of them now :(
I would like to go to Spain again..it would be real fun!! :) Avilès is such a nice city..it isn't as big as Essen but I would like to live there, too. It's enough!!
My spanish family showed me a lot of the way of spanish living and I think I really like it ;)
There are some differences between it but it was a great experience and I hope that all the other students are thinking so,too.
At the end I have to thank Miss Hasselmann who made the exchange possible!
With this positive thought of the exchange I wouldn't have a problem to do the next :P

Hei at all :)
the etwinning project is finished and it made lots of fun. It was very interesting to learn more about Spain and the language. The exchange have confirm my intention to learn the spanish language. It was also interesting to see how the spanish people lives. The flats in Essen are more little than in Avilés. The houses in Avilés are double so big/high than here in Essen. The houses in Avilés look like hotels without an reception. Also from the optical, I found Avilés, Gijon and Ovideo more beautiful than Essen. Everywhere stands palm trees in the city and in Essen stand a house next to another house next to another house.
I would be pleased about a meeting sometime with all the guys, which I have seen.

Hay Everyone!
The etwinning project was very interesting project
and I think it made everyone a lot of fun.
It was a great Experience for me to visit other people
from an other country and to learn how they are living.
It made a lot of fun to go out with the other people
of the group.
For example the trip to Gijon to the aquarium,
without the teachers,
made a lot of fun^^.

If I could do an exchange like this again I would do it.

Rain, hail and a severe storm could not hinder us from enjoying our stay in Spain. We were welcomed very warmly and the German students had a great time. They explored the city, met Spanish friends, tasted new dishes and decided to visit each other soon. They soon become part of their host family.
So from strangers to friends in a few days.
The return trip showed Asturias from its best, blue sky and sunshine back to Santander. The pilot took off early and found a shortcut home. We were able to catch the earlier bus and were home an hour early, full of memories.
Thanks to the teachers involved, María, Belén, Clara, Allison, Marta and Ana for the private tour and the plants from her yard which will continue to grow in Essen.

My name is Jose Mª. I was born in Zamora,like Clarin, and I came to Gijón in 1956.
I live in Luanco. I am married and have two children,aged 28 and 26. I used to work in a primary school.
I've been retired since August,2008.
Now I do these activities: walking, reading, music, pottery and studying a little English to understand some songs , to communicate when I travel, etc..
I like going to the movies, listening to music, sharing opinions in the classroom,sharing culture with older people and keeping my mind busy with this language ( English ), which I´d never studied formally.

Hi everybody ...My name is Ana Cristina, but people call me Any. I'm 37 and I live in Piedras Blancas with my three daugthers.Their names are Ariana, Alba and Mara.They are 13, 9 and 6.
Now,I don't work, but I'm a hairdresser.
I study English at the Official School of Languages and I'm in my first year. I want to learn English to work and to travel. I love travelling. Last summer I went to Mallorca with my daughters and after that I went to Jamaica with my friend Begoña.

I want to go to Tunez in February with my partner and friend Mª Jose .

Hi Everyone there!! Here we are enjoying our e-twinning trip to Essen. So far we have visited our partner´s school, the townhall, the synagogue, and the Catholic Cathedral! There´s so much to do and see... kids are having a great time getting on very well together and speaking lots of English!!
The weather was not as bad as predicted. There´s no snow though it´s freezing cold.

A MUSSEL RECIPE:"MEJILLONES A LA MARINERA"

INGREDIENTS:
2Kg of mussels
Olive oil
Wine
A big onion
Garlic
Parsley
Wheat flour
Red pepper
One chilli pepper

You should clean the mussels,put them in a pot,and pour a glass of wine and a glass of olive oil over them.They must be boiled for several minutes until the mussels open their shells.In a frying pan pour in some olive oil,the cut onion, the cut garlic and the parsley.You must fry this all slowly. After that,put in two spoonfuls of red pepper and one chilli pepper. Pour several spoonfuls of wheat flour into the pan and mix together until you see the sauce has a good texture. At the end, pour in some of the liquid from the boiled mussels after passing it through a strainer, and mix together.

On one hand you have the mussels , and the other hand the sauce.

Asturian Fabada

INGREDIENTS:
¾ kilo of Asturian beans;
2 black sausages;
2 sausages of good quality;
½ kilo of shoulder of pork (or small piece of ham);
100 grs. of streaky bacon;
Ear of pork; (Optional)
Garlic;
Onion;
Salt;
Parsley; (Optional)
A touch of oil;
Saffron; (Optional)

PREPARATION:
We start by leaving the shoulder of pork in warm water the previous night, after scoring the skin. Equally the Asturian beans are left in cold water the previous night.
In a casserole proportionate to the quantities of the ingredients, put in the Asturian beans, the shoulder of pork, the black sausages, the sausages, the bacon, the quartered onion pieces, the cut garlic, the tied parsley, a touch of oil. It is covered with cold water and put on the hob, skimming off the excess carefully. Once boiling we put it aside and let it cook/boil slowly, a little uncovered, making sure that the Asturian beans are always covered with water so that we don’t peel off the skin. Cold water will be added occasionally in small quantities. It must be watched so that the boiling is always slow and also we must shake the casserole often so that the beans do not stick. (Optional: In the middle of the cooking process, season with saffron, lightly toasted and very undone.)
When cooked then we season with salt, bearing in mind the quantity of salty meat. (Optional: If, at the end of the cooking, the broth has remained too thin, pierce the meat, letting it cook a little more.) Before serving, leave to rest aside for half an hour. Before serving, remove the onions and parsley. Serve with the meat sliced.

My Easter Recipe

MY EASTER RECIPE

Hello, my name is Sonia and I’m from Avilés (Asturias). I’ve decided to show you a typical recipe from my city. It´s a typical bun we usually make at Easter.
In Avilés there is a party at Easter, we celebrate this religious party and the beginning of the spring too. It´s name is something like “A Bun Party” (“Fiestas del Bollo”). This name is because of this bun. The godparents give this bun to their godchildren on Easter Sunday.
The bun is different here because it’s the shape of a four pointed star, and it has several layers. You can buy it in all cake shops in Avilés or you can make it yourself! If you do, It´ll be a better and cheaper bun!
I always make it for my godson, and I usually decorate it with a sweet in each star point, with a big chocolate egg on the top of the bun and one small toy from a famous cartoon of the current year. Next Easter I´ll decorate it with a toy of WWE: Smackdown. I don’t like them at all, but he’s seven years old and he loves playing with them.
Now I’m going to tell you about the recipe:

The ingredients you need are:
- 250 grams of sugar
- 250 grams of flour
- 250 grams of lard
- 5 eggs
- A half teaspoon of baking powder

The way you must make it is:
Prepare the baking tin. Grease it with butter and sprinkle with bread crumbs.
Turn on the oven to 150 ºC.
You must melt the lard slowly while you separate the egg yolk and the egg white. It´s incredibly important, don´t mix them. Then, beat the egg white until they froth. You should be sure you are doing this step in the correct way. The secret is to turn the bowl upside down. If the egg white doesn´t move or they don’t turn over you are doing it Ok.
Now, add the yolk and beat, then add the sugar and beat again. Mix the baking powder with the flour, add them and beat again. You should do these steps gently.
Add the lard. It must be tepid, not very hot and not very cold. Beat everything again and put it into the baking tin. Put it into the oven for between 60 and 75 minutes.
It’s very important not to open the oven for an hour. You must check if the bun is made: stick the knife into the bun. If the knife is clean, you should get the bun out of the oven and take it out of the mould.

Rice Pudding

RICE PUDDING RECIPE

Ingredients
2 1/2 cups (600 ml) of whole milk
1/3 cup (66 grams) of uncooked long or short grain white rice
1/8 teaspoon salt
1 egg
1/4 cup (50 grams) dark brown sugar
1 teaspoon of pure vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
1/3 cup (40 grams) raisins

Method
1 In a medium heavy bottomed saucepan, combine milk, rice and salt and bring to a boil over high heat. Reduce heat to low and simmer until the rice is tender, about 20 minutes. Stir frequently to prevent the rice from sticking to the bottom of the pan.
2 In a small mixing bowl, whisk together the egg and brown sugar until well mixed. Add a half cup of the rice mixture - a tablespoon at a time - beating to incorporate.
3 Add egg mixture back into the saucepan of rice and milk and stir, on low heat, for 10 minutes or so, until thickened. Be careful not to have the mixture come to a boil at this point. Stir in the vanilla. Remove from heat and stir in the raisins and cinnamon.

Serve warm or cold.

Serves 2-3.

RECIPE: PEPPERS FILLED WITH SEAFOOD

Ingredients for 4 people:

- 3 tins of “PIQIUILLO” peppers
- STUFFING
- 400 g of prawns without shells.
- 1 spider crab or ½ kg of hake .
- SAUCE
- 2 carrots.
- A trickle of olive oil
- 1/2 onion.
- A little bit of parsley
- Garlic
- A cup of white wine

How to make them :

First of all you have to make the stuffing. Boil some prawns and the spider crab, or you can use a piece of hake ,with a lot of salt for 15 minutes. Keep the water used for boiling.

Secondly, peel and chop the seafood and put the pieces into the peppers, and then close each pepper with a toothpick.
Now you have to coat each one in flour and fry them in hot oil.

The sauce. Heat the oil in a frying pan, peel and chop the onions, garlic and carrots and fry them, you can add also salt, parsley,a little bit of white wine and one glass of water, from the water used to boil the seafood.
Leave everything to cook slowly for about 20 minutes.

Finally you only have to pour the sauce over the peppers and then it is ready to be served.

This recipe is easy and tasty and you ‘ll be able to do it in 60 minutes

Hi, my name is Julian. I am 16 years old and I’m from Aviles, but I live in La Peral, a little village in Illas with my father and my sister. I’m studying a formative cycle, in Valliniello’s CIFP (Centro Integrado de Formacion professional de Valliniello).
I have been studying English since I was a child, and this year I started to do it in the Official Languages School of Aviles.
I’m tall and slim with short brown hair. I think I’m a friendly person. I like going out with my friends, listening to hip hop music, skateboarding with my friends, and all types of things that are fun.
Sometimes I go out in Aviles, but sometimes I stay in la Peral, and I go to Pico Gorfoli by bicycle with some friends, and we cycle in the mountains, it’s exhausting because we speend all day going from the bottom to the top of the mountains.
I recommended all of you to visit la Peral and Illas, because they are two beautiful villages with very friendly people and lots of natural things to do.

Christmas in Poland

Traditionally, Advent is an important season in the Polish year, with special church services, known as Roraty, being held every morning at 6am. The four Sundays of Advent are said to represent the 4,000 years of waiting for Christ.Before Advent beeswax is poured on water, and fortunes are told from the shapes which emerge.Special tasks carried out during Advent are the baking of the Christmas piernik or honey cake, and the making of Christmas decorations.

Pierniki are made in a great variety of shapes, including hearts, animals and St Nicholas figures.

Beautifully lit Christmas trees are placed in all public areas, outside churches and in homes. Traditionally the trees are decorated with shiny apples, gift walnuts, beautifully wrapped chocolate shapes and many homemade decorations and candles. On the top of the tree is a star or a glittering top piece. In many homes, sparklers are hung on the branches of the trees giving it a magical air. Sometimes the trees are left standing until February 2nd, the feast day of St Mary of the Candle of Lightning.

During Advent, the Gwiador or star carriers, used to begin wandering through the towns and villages and this would continue until Epiphany. Some of the Gwiadors sang carols, others recited verses or put on Szopi or puppet show, or herody or nativity scenes. The last two customs are developments from traditional manger scenes or Jaselka or crib.

Christmas Eve, Wigilia, is an important part of the Polish Christmas, in fact, the most important rituals are celebrated on this day.

Hallo! Mein Name is Cristina Prieto. Ich bin 22 Jahre alt. Ich komme aus Spanien und ich wohne in Asturien. Ich lebe mit meiner Familie in einem Haus in Salinas. Salinas ist ein Dorf an der Küste und es hat zwei Strände.

Ich habe Tourismus studiert und auch einen Intensivkurs über Asturien gemacht.
Jetzt arbeite ich in einem Fremdenverkehrsbüro in Oviedo für die Region Asturien. Meine Arbeit ist es die Touristen zu informieren. Ich habe auch als Fremdenführerin gearbeitet.

In meiner Freizeit gehe ich gern ins Kino mit meinen Freunden. Ich gehe auch gern zum Strand, weil ich gern Spaziergänge mache. Musik begeistert mich und ich surfe jeden Tag im Internet.

Wegen meiner Arbeit, muss ich viele Sprachen lernen. Ich spreche Französisch, Englisch und ein bisschen Deutsch. Jetzt bin ich im dritten Deutschkurs in der EOI in Avilés.
Ich möchte andere Sprachen wie z.B. Italienisch oder Portugiesisch lernen.

Hallo an alle!
Ich lerne deutsch an der Sprachschule in Avilés und komme aus Spanien. Ich brauche Hilfe mit meinem Deutsch, weil Deutsch nicht leicht ist. Und ich finde den Blog sehr interessant.
Wo fange ich an? Mein Name. Ich habe noch nicht meinen Name gesagt. Ich heiße Noel. Ich bin 25 Jahre jung (ja, jung), und wohne in La Braña. Das ist ein kleines Dorf bei Aviles. Ich bin Ingenieur von Beruf und ich bin nicht verheiratet. Ihr könnt mich auf dem Foto sehen.
Meine Familie: ich habe einen kleinen Bruder, aber ich habe keine Schwester. Mein Bruder heißt Illan und ist 13 Jahre alt. Meine Mutter ist Lehrerin und mein Vater arbeitet in einem Büro. Sie heißen Luco (mein Vater) und Marisa (meine Mutter). Und wir haben einen großen Hund. Er heißt Thor, und er ist sehr ruhig und schön.
In meiner Freizeit bemale ich sehr gerne Figuren für Rollenspiele. Ich spiele in vielen Städten mit diesen Figuren auf Treffen für Fans von Rollenspielen (Oviedo, Santander, Valladolid,Madrid...) und muss deshalb manchmal in diese Städte reisen.
Für mich ist Deutsch eine neue Sprache. Ich möchte es schnell lernen, aber Deutsch ist ein bisschen schwer, also helft mir, bitte.

Hello!

My name is Diana and I'm a 24-year-old girl who lives in Avilés, in Asturias and studies English at the Language School of my city.

I like to go out with my friends, read a lot and the cinema, among other things. I’ ve worked in a primary school and some days in a nursery school, but now I'm only studying.

I began to study English this year, because I like this language and I think that it is important to speak it because, nowadays, it is the most spoken language in the world, and it is necessary to talk with people from abroad and travel out of your country.

Now, I ‘ll tell you a bit about my city:
Avilés is an industrial city who grew in the last century thanks to the inmigration of people from all the places of Spain who came here to work in the factories ..
Here there are different activities to do: cinemas, a theater, shopping centres, discos, a lot of cafes and pubs, and lot of them are planned activities for young people.

If you want to visit Avilés, you will be welcome.

Hi! I’m Bego. My mother is from Burgos and my father is from Cantabria. I also have a sister who is older than me. I’m from Avilés but now I’m living in Las Vegas, Corvera.

I’ve been married for 25 years and we have a son, Nacho, who is 21 years old.

I don’t work now, but I’m studying English in the Official Languages School in Avilés. I’m in the second year of Basic Level and I have a lot of friends in the classroom.

I have medium-length curly dark hair and my eyes are brown and big.

I’m quite extrovert, I like people, I think I’m a positive person.

My hobbies are watching TV, playing with my computer, going out with my friends and gardening.

In my last holidays we went to Galicia and we ate a lot of octopus, we walked along the beach and we saw dolphins. We visited the High Estuary and the Low Estuary and we ended up at the grape harvest in Orense. In the end we visited all Galicia, whose villages are very beautiful.

HELLO GUYS!

Let me tell you something about me:

My name's Robin Kowalski, I am 16 years old and live with my mom, dad and my two brothers in Essen, Germany.
My first brother(Michael) is 24 years old, and my second brother(Samuel) is 21 years old.
My whole family was born in Poland, except for me...:D
I was born here in ESSEN!^^
I'm now in the 10th grade in the Gymnasium-Essen-Nord-Ost-"highschool".

I am speaking German, Polish and English.
(ok...I'm learning French now, but i hate it because I can't notice all the vokabulary and gramar of this horrible speech!xD)
I've been in Poland, in Greece and in Spain.
I was already a lot of times in Poland!(also, because we've got 3 houses there(yeah...that's my dad's hobby: to build houses xD), and my family largely is living there)
My dad is an independent "allround-craftsman" and my brothers works with him!
And if I want and have some time left, I help him, too.

My hobbies are: do sport, hear music, play games(computer- and board-games) , go out with my friends(meet them), and relax after a hard day(by playing games and hearing music) !^^

My style of music is basicly Electronica, House, Hip-Hop, Rap, and Rock
While hearing "my" music I can turn-off and relax.=)

I like to get to know other cultures, morals, places and people.
Therefore I'm looking forward to do the exchange.

My name is Shanice.I am 15 years old and go in the 10 class at a german highschool.I live with my parents and my little sister in Essen Germany.We´ve a little house here and a lot of cute pets .
Essen is the culture capital 2010 .Here in Essen there a lot of things to do ;)
The city of Essen is really nice .There you can go shopping very well.
And also in Essen are many interesting sights to see .

I´ve got two sisters one of them is 4 and the other is 10.
My parents are divorced since I was 3 years old.
So my mum lives with my ten-year old sister in a other city: but i see them every weekend =)

In my freetime I love to go shopping;do sport;meet my friends;celebrate and do a lot of other things,which make fun .
My intrests are traveling;other languages like english or french;music e.c.t!!!
The most important thing for me is my family and my friends.I couln´t live without them ♥

Hi, everyone.
My name’s Iván, this is my first year in the Official School of Languages.
I work in Avilés, but I live in Candás and I’m going to tell you about it.
Candás is a small village in the north of Asturias, Spain, which has a fishing port, several small and very calm seaside corners and fantastic scenic viewpoints.
The fishing port dates from the 17th century but it was rebuilt several times. You can eat seafood at the fishing port’s restaurants and also walk alog a new seafront along the coast.
The most important monument is San Felix’ Church, which in spite of being destroyed during the civil war still keeps remains from the 10th century.
In the summer, it is very lively and you can enjoy the Sardina’s fiesta on the first of august. People eat sardines at the fishing port and drink cider. They wear the traditional clothes, which are blue trousers, a white t-shirt, blue espadrilles, a beret and a neckerchief.
In the middle of september we have the last fiesta of the summer, Sto. Cristo’s festivity ( in the honor of Jesus Christ) , which is very popular too.

Hello everybody ! I'm new here!
My name's Angel. I'm originally from Aviles , but now I live in Las Vegas , Corvera, with my wife and my son. Their names are Agueda and Ruben. Agueda works in a dry cleaner's for Pressto. Rubén is 12 years old. He plays handball at Corvera Balonmano. He plays the Drums too, because he likes music. I work for El Corte Inglés. I've been happily married for 15 years.
I'm in my first year at the Official School of Languages in Avilés. I study English in the morning on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays and my teacher is Maria Jesús Balán. In the evening my English classes are on Tuesdays, Wednedsdays and Thursdays and my teacher is Alison. She is British.
I love traveling.I like reading books in Spanish or French. I like football and my favourite team is Sporting. I love music too, specially Blues. My favourite singer is B.B. King, but I like Eric Clapton very much too. My favourites bands are Pink Floyd, Dire Straits, Red Hot......., but I love playing the guitar with my friends every Weekend.

My name is Paula. I’m sixteen years old but my birthday is on the 23 of December. I’m Spanish and I live in Avilés. Avilés is a very old city in the north of Spain.
I live with my parents, Constantino and Ana Rosa, and with my brother, Amaro. I’m in my second year of Bachiller and I think it’s very difficult. I go to the School of Music, I play the violin and I’m in my eleventh year. My teacher is Polish and his name is Jacek. I really like playing the violin and I want to be a violinist in the future. I go to English classes on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoon.
Now, I’m going to tell you something else about myself. I’ve got longish brown hair and brown eyes. I have dark skin and I don’t wear glasses. I’m shortish and average build.
I think I’m a generous person. I’m extrovert, sincere and friendly. I get on well with all the people. I’m very talkative and very very stubborn. I don’t like people who aren’t punctual.
I have a pet, it’s a cat and her name is Nika. She is very intelligent and funny. My cat is six months old and she use to live in the street.
I like languages but I’m not good at them, although I also study French.
In my free time I love listening to music. Actually, I like all kinds of music. I like going out to shopping with my mother.
I belong to an orchestra in Soria and I often go there and meet a lot of people from different places in Spain. It’s great fun and I learn very much.

hi everbody...

My name is Jan and I'm 16 years old. I live in Essen, in a flat with my parents and my little sister (11). I have two little rabbits (Lilly and Richie), they are really nice :P I love travelling (I have been to Spain, Turkey, France, The Netherlands, Belgium and lots of more...) I also like a lot of sports, but my favourite sport is football.. I'm a very talented player but I spend a lot of time on it. Also I like to go out with friends, go shopping or watching dvds. We have a lot of huge shoppingcentres here. Essen was appointed European Capital of Culture for 2010 on behalf of the whole Ruhr Area. We have a lot of sights here. Well, I'm sure we'll have a great time :P

I'm in grade 10 at school and will start learning spanish next year. Now I'm studying english and french. I'm proud of doing the student exchange. I'm truly greatful. I see it as a chance to meet new people and learn new things :P I'm looking forward to travalling to Spain...

My Name is Robin. I am the evil side of the other Robin.
So, what can I tell you about myself?
I am 16 years old and I live in Germany, in Essen! I know it's a surprise, but I am serious.
I live in a house with my sister, she's 13, my mum, my dad and my grandma.
I'm now in 10^th grade in the Gymnasium Nord-Ost.
I love to relax, do nothing and think about nothing, so I don't like stress, but sometimes you can relax with stress. Sounds strange, but it is so.
I have a lots of other hobbies!
I love to play football, it's my favourite sport and my favourite football club is Borussia Dortmund.
And I love to play computer games, but I am not allowed to say, which computer games.
My music-style is electro, techno, hip-hop, rap, dance and hands up.
And I have to say, I am a mastermind
I really like Spain.
I was two times in Spain, so it will be my third time in Spain in January.
I was in Mallorca and Barcelona. I love Barcelona.
Barcelona is a very big and beautiful city.
BUT Germany is good, too. Essen is a wonderful city and I know you'll love it.

my Name is Lisa and in a month I'm 17years old. I've got a sister. She's younger than me (13) but taller hehe. We live with mum and dad in a house in the north of Essen. We have got two little rabbits, Haribo and Pepper. I love pets and can't live without. It's a nice feeling to know 'at home somebody is waiting for me' :D
I like to live in a big city. You can shop everytime. I just need 15minutes to be in the city! Here in the ruhrarea are lots of big citys where you can go shopping. We live in the shoppingparadise and it isn't all expensive.
I'm happy to do this exchange. I love Spain and I hope my english will be better after this exchange. The first time i had been in spain I was two years old. Next year I go to an other school and study spanish there.

I go dancing. I'm in formation named ELECTRIFY (the right picture).
They and my best friends are all for me. Without them - without me! This weekend we have a championchip (GermanCup) I hope all you will wish us luck :)

Hi my name is Lea. I´m 16 years old and live with my family in a house in Essen, Germany.

I´ve got a brother, who is 13 years old and two iguanas [named sheila and spiro]

I love pets like this, because i think they are very interesting and sweet.. :)

In school i like art, german and MTU [human, technology, environment].

Whenever i have free time i meet my friends. I hate staying alone.
We mostly stay out and relax or go shopping.
I also like cycling and i LOVE to take a walk.. :P

On Weekends we love to party: either we throw a party at someones home or we go to a disco or bar.
